Seaside Park, NJ
On Wednesday July 6th, 2011 local surfer Clay Pollioni topped his friends to win one thousand dollars on the latest random stop of The Bum Rush Tour, an impromptu surf contest put on by Sun Bum, a new killer line of sun care products out of Cocoa Beach, FL.
The Bum Rush Tour, which is featured in the current (August) issue of Surfing magazine sprang up around 6pm at 2nd Ave in Seaside Park, New Jersey as brewing rain clouds and heavy winds subsided to sunshine and waist high waves. The isolated pack of surfers, fresh from their 9 to 5's, battled for the set wave of the 15-minute, winner-take-all surprise event. "We don't know their names so on the heat sheet we give them nicknames, the winner was "Black Top" cuz he had a black topper on, contest judge Lisa Autrey explained, "he sat outside the crowd, flowed with the waves, cranked hard turns, and smiled on every ride".
After the contest, the Sun Bum crew hopped into the company's 1971 modified convertible Suburban and headed out of town in search of the next town to stoke out. "We're looking for the best local talent, who are just doing what they love to do", Dustin Smith, Sun Bum's Event Director smiled, "No entry fees, no qualifiers, no posturing, just 15 minutes of fun and then somebody gets a champagne shower and a check".
Sources say they were headed towards Virginia Beach this weekend. Play nice.
