KAUAI SURFER GIRL... Virginia!

Local Kauai girl Virginia is tall, strong and loves to surf. While she
does compete locally on occasion, free surfing is where she hones her skills and develops her style on a daily basis - and boy does she have STYLE! Let's find out more about her!

WSSM: Virginia, how long have you been surfing and what inspired to to start?

VIRGINIA: I started surfing about 6 years ago. Nothing really insired me, I just saw an old board my dad had in the back of the house. I took it and taught myself and got hooked to surfing.

WSSM: Now you live on Kauai, but are currently on Oahu for school. What is the biggest difference in surf vibe would you say, between the two islands?

VIRGINIA:The difference in Oahu is that there’s way more people and you have to be really aggressive, rather than Kauai, which is way more laid back. The people there let you go! Esp.the Uncles...

WSSM: Favorite surf spot & grinds on Kauai?
VIRGINIA: I can't tell you where my favorite spot is, my friends would hurt me real bad. I like to eat at Pono Market and Ching Young snack shop.

WSSM: What size board do you currently ride and why?

VIRGINIA: I ride 5'11 because that's all I can afford. Longboards are way expensive.

WSSM: You were recently photo-graphed for the WSSM "Swimsuits of Summer" photoshoot this past summer. As a model "newbie" what was your experience like and do you see yourself progressing towards more action sports modeling?

VIRGINIA: It was a fun experience. I made a lot of new surfing friends from just that one day. As for progressing towards more action sports modeling I'll keep my doors open and wait for another opportunity to come my way.

WSSM: Anything you'd like to say to the surfing community?
VIRGINIA: Keep it real
