How long have you been surfing, and what inspired you?
My first surfing experience was when I was 15, but have been consistly surfing for the last two years. I was inspired to surf by the intimate relationship surfing has with nature.

What is one thing sure to make you laugh out loud?
Elaine from Seinfeld.

What greatest lesson do you feel surfing has taught you?
To live in the present moment.

List the 3 most important things to you?
Family, friends and travel.

Where do you like to go for grinds after a good session?
Mi Casa.....tofu burrito...mmmmm.

How long have you known “(Kelley Hatfield)“and what is one thing she really enjoys?
I have known Kelley for ??? 5 years, and been married to her for 3. Kelley enjoys doing many things, but some that top the list are surfing, running, cycling, competing in open water swims and triathlons, oh yeah and her favorite, eating ice cream.

Does she charge or cruise?
Everything that Kelley does in life she charges. She always strives to be the fastest, and best at what ever it is that she has put her mind to, but when it comes to surfing she cruises. Kelley enjoys being in the ocean and having fun, not taking things so seriously. She is always the person who is smiling and saying hello to everyone in the water, whether or not they want to be nice or not. I think more people, especially me, should take a lesson from Kelley and learn to lighten up a little, and cruise…

Where would the two of you go if you could surf anywhere in the world together?
Right to our backyard here in Kailua, Flats…

List the top 3 things you admire Kelley?
Kelley has many traits that I admire but the top three have to be:
1) Her sense of adventure, and love for the ocean
2) Her can-do, never give up attitude
3) And her overwhelming amount of love and care that she spreads to whomever she comes in contact with.

What’s the silliest thing you have ever done together?
Sell our house in Florida, 6 months after buying it, pack up our dogs, drive across the U.S. and move to Hawaii just because it sounded like fun… And it has been, we enjoy everything that the island has to offer, and plan on calling Oahu home for a long time to come.

What makes you best of buddies?
We are best buddies because we can talk to each other about any and everything. There is nobody in this world that knows me better than her, and I would say that I know her better than anybody as well. But most of all, I know that we are best buddies because when I think of surfing I think of her.

Anything else you would like to say place below:
I have been surfing my entire life and have seen many people try to learn to surf. When Kelley and I met she said that she wanted too learn to surf, and had only tried surfing once or twice but definitely didn’t call herself a surfer ( it’s a little harder when you live in WA state). At that time I thought that she would be like most and try it a couple of times and then let their board turn yellow on the rack in the back of the garage. As time progressed Kelley and I started surfing more and more together. In the last three years that we have lived in HI Kelley has not only fallen in Love with surfing, but it has become somewhat of an addiction, finally she understands why surfing has always been so important to me.
Kelley has become quit a good surfer and it would mean so much if she could get her picture in your mag. She has no idea that I am sending this to you guys so it would be a really cool surprise for her to open up the latest edition of WSSM and see her pic, as she hasn’t missed any of the editions since you guys started. Thanks for considering us for your future editions.
